Define the opportunity

Electric mobility in Egypt is too broad to support an investment decision. A useful opportunity statement names the buyer, end user, trip or task, location, current alternative and reason a new offer might win.

A delivery operator replacing short petrol-powered trips presents a different case from a retailer selling personal commuting products. A cargo tricycle used on a managed site creates another set of requirements. Each case has its own willingness to pay, duty cycle, channel and service needs.

Egypt's official policy includes lower-carbon and green transport. This is relevant context, but it does not establish demand for a particular light electric vehicle. Demand evidence must come from the intended buyer and channel.

Compare import, SKD and CKD routes

CBU, SKD and CKD change the work performed in Egypt and the responsibilities carried by the local business. They should be compared as operating models, not as abbreviations attached to a price sheet.

Before comparing CBU, SKD and CKD economics, confirm the current import, classification and operating requirements for the exact product configuration and intended Egyptian entity.

Cost analysis follows classification. Use the same basis for customs duty, VAT and other charges, freight, assembly, facility, testing, rework, working capital, spares and warranty.

Turn product-market fit into a specification

A range figure cannot describe an operating day. Product-market fit starts with the work the vehicle must complete and the conditions around it.

Define distance and stops per shift, rider and cargo load, road surface, gradients, traffic pattern, temperature, dust, charging access, storage, daily utilisation and acceptable downtime. Then examine the product around those conditions.

The battery deserves practical questions. Can it be removed safely if charging beside the vehicle is unrealistic? Does usable capacity cover the duty cycle under the target load? How long does charging take with the supplied charger? How will the pack be stored, identified and replaced?

Serviceability belongs in the same specification. List common wear and failure points, required tools, diagnostic access, manuals, technician skills and parts. Tests should reproduce the intended load and route profile, record conditions and use fixed acceptance criteria.

Control the China supply chain

A sourcing arrangement may involve a vehicle manufacturer, component suppliers, a trading company or a system integrator. The buyer needs to know which party controls the finished configuration and prepares the technical file.

A different battery, controller or charger may affect performance, shipping evidence, classification or compliance. Change control keeps the approved product and the produced product aligned.

NIRU's published working model connects product and market requirements with selected China supply and commercial coordination. Buyer due diligence and approval of the final configuration remain part of each project.

Evaluate the supplier

Supplier evaluation should match evidence to the product being purchased. Begin with the company's legal identity, contracting authority and relationship to the production site. Then review production controls for the relevant category.

Check incoming inspection, assembly controls, end-of-line tests, serial traceability, non-conformance handling and corrective action. Confirm that certificates match the issuing body, status, manufacturer, factory, brand, model and variant.

China's compulsory certification and factory-inspection systems can contribute to due diligence where a product is in scope. They do not establish Egyptian market access.

For lithium batteries, match the cell and pack identifiers to the applicable UN 38.3 test summary. Then confirm the mode-specific transport file, packaging, state of charge, marking and carrier acceptance.

Design the pilot

Design distribution and service together

A channel must carry the operating work as well as the product. Define who will qualify the buyer, demonstrate the unit, collect payment, deliver it, support registration where applicable, supply parts and handle warranty or defects.

Egypt's Consumer Protection Agency describes general obligations covering product information, invoices and responses to defects. Product-specific warranty, labeling and consumer procedures belong in the final legal review and channel plan.

Build the compliance release path

Compliance is a SKU-level release process. Start with the final specification, intended use and entities involved.

For commercial imports, confirm the importing entity's eligibility and registration. Egypt's Advance Cargo Information system requires pre-shipment data and an ACID for sea cargo through Nafeza. This handles cargo information; product admissibility and classification are separate decisions.

GOEIC oversees inspection of regulated industrial imports, while Customs determines HS code and import character. The applicable standards, inspections and certificates must be matched to the SKU.

Road use and connectivity need their own checks. Egypt's Traffic Law provides a licensing framework for rapid transport vehicles, including motorcycles as defined by the law. If the product contains a communication element, confirm whether NTRA type approval applies to the exact equipment and which current procedure applies.

Review each domain separately. Weak uptime requires a product or quality response; slow collections point to a commercial problem. Treating both as sales performance makes the next decision less precise.
